A Multidimensional Wave Digital Filter Algorithm for the 3D Simulation of Room Acoustics

Multidimensional wave digital lters yield robust algorithms for the computer simulation of certain distributed parameter systems described by partial di erential equations. Here, a multidimensional wave digital lter algorithm for the spacetime discretization of the physical laws of acoustics is discussed. Its implementation by state equations is presented. An example for the propagation of a sound pulse in a 3D model of a three-room building shows the correct modelling of free space propagation, re ection at boundaries and di raction. The numerical complexity of the algorithm increases linearly with the volume of the enclosure, but it does not depend on its shape or structure.
